The problem

Calorie tracking works. Almost nobody keeps it up.

It is not a motivation problem, it is a data-entry problem. Here is what logging one plate of chicken, rice and broccoli actually costs you.

A traditional tracker

60–120 seconds
  1. 1Open the app, find “Add food”.
  2. 2Search “chicken”. Read forty results.
  3. 3Decide: grilled? roasted? with skin? which brand?
  4. 4Pick a portion — is “1 breast” 120 g or 200 g?
  5. 5Do all of that again for the rice.
  6. 6Do all of that again for the broccoli.
  7. 7Skip the oil it was cooked in, like everybody does.

Sapide

about 15 seconds
  1. 1Open the app. The camera is already there.
  2. 2Take the photo.
  3. 3Glance at the result, fix anything wrong with one tap, confirm.

Three times a day, that gap is the whole product. It is also why the oil, the sauce and the drink finally get logged: you never had to describe them.

How it works

Point, check, done.

The camera does the describing. Your job is to disagree when it is wrong — and that takes one tap.

  1. Step 1

    Photograph your plate

The app opens straight onto the camera. One still photo, rear camera, no framing guides to line up. Photos already in your gallery work too, screenshots included.

No signal? Shoot anyway. The analysis is queued and runs the moment you are back.

  2. Step 2

    Read the estimate

Foods, portions and macros come back in seconds, with the meal slot already inferred from the clock. Every single thing on that screen can be changed.

Nothing is ever a dead end: even a failed guess gives you a screen you can finish by hand.

  3. Step 3

    Confirm

One tap files the meal in your journal and updates today's numbers. Changed your mind? Undo is right there, for five seconds and forever after.

Tomorrow, the same breakfast is one tap from the home screen — no photo needed.

Wrong guess? One tap, not a search.

Every detected food carries its runner-up answers as chips. Tap “salmon fillet” and the item, the macros and the day total all recompute instantly — no re-analysis, no waiting, no typing. Portion looks off? Scale the whole meal by half, one and a half, or double.

Honest numbers

It is an estimate, and we say so.

A single flat photo cannot tell you a plate's calories to the unit. Anyone claiming otherwise is rounding a guess and hiding it from you. We show you the guess.

  • Totals are labelled as estimates and come with a range, not a fake-precise single figure.
  • Items the model inferred rather than saw — the cooking oil, the butter under the eggs — are marked “assumed”, so you can delete them if you cooked dry.
  • Low-confidence items are flagged for a second look instead of quietly padding your day.
  • Anything you edit by hand stays yours: no later process overwrites a number you typed.
  • Going over your goal is shown in amber and stated plainly. No red alarms, no streak to break, no lecture.

Cooking oil is rarely visible in a photo, so we assume a normal amount and tell you that we did. One tap removes it if it does not belong.

Privacy

The safest way to hold your data is not to have it.

Sapide has no accounts, no sign-in and no cloud copy of your journal. That is an architectural decision rather than a policy promise: there is no server-side database of your meals to leak, subpoena or sell.

Your journal never leaves your phone

Meals, photos, goals and settings live in local storage on your device. There is no sync, so there is nothing in transit to intercept.

No account, ever

No email, no password, no social login. First launch puts you on the camera, not on a sign-up form.

Photos are used, not stored

Each photo is downscaled and stripped of all metadata — GPS included — on your phone before it is sent over an encrypted connection. Our service holds it in memory for the length of the request and never writes it to disk.

Your data is portable

Export everything to JSON or CSV whenever you like, and import it back. Erasing everything takes a few taps in Settings and leaves nothing behind.

Things we never collect

  • Your name
  • Your email
  • Your age
  • Your weight
  • Your height
  • Your sex
  • Location
  • Contacts
  • Advertising IDs
  • What you ate (in analytics)
  • Health conditions
  • Cross-app identifiers

Sapide has no automatic calorie calculator based on your body, so it has no reason to ask for your age, sex, height or weight — and it never does. You set your own targets, or none at all.

Everything else

A journal, not a project.

The features that keep day 30 as fast as day 1 — and nothing that turns eating into homework.

One-tap repeats

Recent and favourite meals sit one tap from the home screen. The same breakfast on Tuesday costs you a second, and no photo.

History that answers a question

Days newest first, a 7- or 30-day bar chart, and your averages. No heat map to decode, no streak to protect.

Goals are optional

Set a calorie or protein target if you want one. Leave them empty and the app simply shows what you ate. Four fields, no wizard, no body measurements.

Manual entry when you would rather

Search a food, or just type a name and a number of calories. Three fields for the meals you cannot be bothered to describe.

Works on a plane

Capture and log offline. Queued photos analyse themselves the moment you have a connection again.

Export and import

JSON and CSV on demand, with your photos if you want them. Your history is yours to take elsewhere.

Light and dark, done properly

Follows your system theme. Dark mode is designed rather than inverted, and it is the same app in both.

Accessible by default

Full screen-reader support, dynamic type up to 200%, AA contrast and generous touch targets. Not a release-note afterthought.

Small and quiet

Under 20 MB, no splash animation, no ads, and no notifications beyond the single daily reminder you can switch on yourself.

What Sapide deliberately does not do

No streaks, no badges, no confetti, no AI nutrition coach, no social feed, no water tracking, no step counting, and no lecture when you go over. It is a food journal. It does that one job, then gets out of your way.

Pricing

Free where it costs us nothing. Paid where it does.

Every photo analysis is a paid model call, so that is the only thing we meter. Your journal, history, goals and exports are free forever, because serving them costs us nothing.

  • Unlimited photo analyses

  • Cancelling never hides or deletes a meal you logged
  • One subscription — switch between monthly and yearly whenever you like

Indicative prices for your region. The App Store and Google Play will show you your own currency and local price, and that is the price that applies.

The paywall appears exactly once: when a free user asks for a fourth analysis in a day. Never on launch, never before your first photo, never in the middle of logging dinner.

Questions

The things people ask first.

If yours is not here, write to us — a human answers.

How accurate is it, really?

Identification is good on common dishes. Portions from a single photo realistically carry a ±30% error, which is why we show a range and make correcting a guess faster than typing one. Used consistently, Sapide is very good at telling an 1 800-calorie day from a 3 000-calorie day — which is the question most people actually have.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up, no email and no password anywhere in the app. You open it and the camera is there.

What happens to my photos?

They are resized and stripped of metadata on your phone, sent over an encrypted connection, held in memory only for as long as the analysis takes, and never written to any server disk. On your device you decide whether to keep them and for how long.

Can I use it without setting any goals?

Yes. Leave the targets empty and Sapide simply shows what you ate. Nothing nags you to fill anything in, and no screen is broken without them.

What if the app gets my food wrong?

Tap one of the alternatives it offers, or edit the item directly. Totals recompute instantly and the analysis is never re-run, so correcting costs you nothing.

Does it work offline?

Capture and logging always work. A photo taken offline is queued and analysed automatically once you are back online — nothing is lost.

There is no cloud backup. Will I lose my data?

Your journal is local, which is why it is private, and also why we recommend exporting from time to time. It is two taps in Settings, and it restores by import on any device.

Is Sapide medical advice?

No. It is a food journal that gives estimates. It does not diagnose, treat or prescribe, and it deliberately will not calculate a calorie target from your body for you. For anything health-related, talk to a qualified professional.

Which languages does it speak?

The app and this site are both available in ten languages. More are coming — the product was built with translation in mind from the first line.

Can I get my data out again?

Yes. JSON and CSV export, with your photos if you want them, and JSON import to bring it back. Having no account means your data portability cannot depend on us.

Your next meal is your first log.

Download it, open it, photograph lunch. That is the entire onboarding.
